The Dean's List - It's Time For Resurrection

Resurrection - a: the rising of Christ from the dead b: the rising again to life of all the human dead before the final judgment c: the state of one risen from the dead

Christians are celebrating the most holy time of the year. Easter marks the Resurrection of Jesus three days after his Crucifixion (no, it has nothing to do with bunnies, eggs or chocolate). During my morning wake up prayer, I thought about the word, "Resurrection." It is a powerful word and one that I think we all need to stop and think about for a moment.

Turn on the news, read a newspaper - From one story to the next, we hear about all of the horrible things going on in our city, country - our world! The death and destruction from the wars, illness, natural disasters, hunger and the recession - all things that are riding on our shoulders or lingering in our minds on a daily basis. The average person today struggles with some of the hardest decisions they've ever been faced with, on some of the most simple and day-to-day items. Example: Do I buy food or gas? Do I keep the lights on or pay the rent? Can I squeeze in a 3rd or 4th job? I'm sick, but I don't have insurance or the money to go to the doctor to buy medication. The list goes on.....Unfortunately! With all of that, it is no wonder people are walking around like they are dead (or as a friend of mine calls it, "The Wowzy, Wowzy, Woo, Woo Look"). The state of the world doesn't look like it will change in the short term, so it is time for all of us to make an attitude adjustment.

It's time for Resurrection!

When I think about ways to resurrect, I can't help but think about the people of Japan. They were hit with one of the most devastating earthquake and tsunamis in world history!! Thousands of people were killed and infrastructure destroyed. What did they do? They pulled together and started the journey to Resurrection. I saw a report on CNN showing how a main road in Japan was totally destroyed during the quake. Within 4 days, the road had been repaired. Within a month, half of the schools had been rebuilt, repaired or consolidated, so the children could get back to learning - Education - Japan's number one priority. Families have moved in together to pool their resources (which many in the Asian culture do all the time) in order to rebuild their lives. People stood in line peacefully and orderly as they waited for a loaf of bread and water. There was no looting, no fighting and no disorder. And then there were the 150 or so brave men and women who stayed on-site at the nuclear reactor (which was like a kamikaze mission), trying to stop radiation from leaking in order for others to be safe. All of this was accomplished with only a fraction of financial support from other countries (millions were raised for Katrina and Haiti and they haven't come close to the progress already made in Japan). Some have said that Japan doesn't need our help because they are one of the richest countries in the world. I think we now know why....We need to be more like them!

It's time for Resurrection!

Bringing it back home (Rochester that is), we need to come back from the dead. There have been some very tumultuous times in Rochester over the last year. Mayoral control, the mayor election and here we are again, the resignation of Superintendent Jean Claude "JC" Brizzard. Life itself is hard enough, but to have all of these things happening in our city, things that affect our lives and our children's lives, are sucking a little life out of us every day! Take some notes from the people of Japan - Come together - Work together - Not for political reasons, but for the "Lives" of the people you represent!

It's time for Resurrection!

Calling all parents, teachers, adults and community members - OUR CHILDREN ARE DYING!!!! Something has to be done to save their lives. We gave them life - It is now time for us to save the life we created!

It's time for Resurrection!

If things aren't working out for you and you haven't made an adjustment yet - Its time! Obviously what you were doing isn't working. Your old way is dead. Bury it!

It's time for Resurrection!
